CAT LADIES

Some people just not so smart.          Am  C D/F#   E7
Tip over the apple cart.                       Am  C D/F#   E7
Don’t think about what they say.      Am C7   F  F#°
Learn lessons the hard way.               G  E7

Laugh at people who don’t have kids.
Their choice, and it’s none of your biz.
Don’t go and provoke their ire.
Now they’re coming out, breathing fire.

CHORUS
Cat ladies tell no lies.                                        F
Cat ladies’ll put you wise.                               Am
They don’t need to jump and shout.             D7
Keep their cool when the claws come out.  G  E7

They’ve got rights to protect.
You’re giving them no respect.
You keep trying to pick a fight.
Leave ’em alone, or else treat ’em right!

Cat ladies’ll tear you up,
Little pieces like a paper cup,
Leave you looking like such a clown.
Open your mouth and your polls go down.
INSTRUMENTAL
CHORUS

Big gorillas think they’re in charge.    F
Those egos are just so large.                 Am
Make a mess and think it’s great,        D7
Always trying to dominate.                   G  E7

Takes a pretty clueless guy,
Get in trouble, and he don’t know why.
Cat ladies,  on the prowl.
……don’t you run afoul.
  watching you like a hawk.
…..think about how you talk…

What’s it about?  During the presidential campaign of 2024, the GOP VP nominee has been rightly criticized for making fun of childless women, calling them “cat ladies.” This has turned out to be short-sighted at best, provoking a vigorous response from people of all descriptions, and a surprising number of very popular, powerful American women.

This song celebrates the vigor and solidarity of the response to this demeaning and intolerant style of politics which has been embraced by the Republican party in recent years. It is unkind, and remarkably unwise. We want a nation and a world safe for families and people of all types. This country was brought forth in reaction to the tyranny of England’s monarchy. It will not be replaced by the tyranny of a small-minded and power-hungry domestic minority.

Much of our present trouble has been condoned and amplified by a radical so-called “conservative” supreme court. It’s been going on for a while now, and there is urgent need for reform. Some of my musical pieces on this subject include Real People have Heart and There Will Not be a King.
