Dominion Song

We’re Dominion, your utility,
We control your electricity.
We like saying that we’re going green,
But more money’s what we really mean.

Don’t want solar, can’t you see, We don’t like your liberty.
We’re Dominion, you can’t resist, Gonna make you Cease and Desist.

Lots of coal in West Virginia,
Pushing mountains down into the rivers.
Making money, knocking down the trees,
Big gorillas, do just what we please.

Don’t want solar, can’t you see, We don’t like your liberty,
We’re Dominion, tell your mama, In Virginia, we’re the law!

You hear our voice in our campaign donations,
Protecting us from having to make meaningful reforms.
Using your money, our public relationsKeep you misinformed…. MISINFORMED !

Don’t want solar, can’t you see, We don’t like your liberty,
We’re Dominion, tell your mama, In Virginia, we’re the law!

WHAT IS THIS SONG ABOUT?   Dominion Resources, Inc. is one largest producers of electricity in the United States, and the “big gorilla” in Virginia. Their electricity comes mainly from coal and nuclear.   Dominion advertises an interest in “green power” , but their behavior tells a different story.  When Secure Futures, from Staunton, VA, began to install solar arrays on college campuses, Dominion used their muscle to intervene, demanding that they “Cease and Desist”.    Consumers are just starting to become aware of “Dominion’s Wind and Solar Facade”.  Like many large corporations, they use greenwashing  and political influence to deceive the public and to avoid the discipline of a true competitive market.  This makes it harder for us to leave our children with a world they can live in.  Does this sound like responsible corporate behavior?  A company as big as Dominion could make a big difference in turning around our economy and rescuing our natural environment.  Their present course, however, is a blight on our society and an obstacle to a sustainable future.  As a mockery of John Denver’s beautiful song,  Dominion Power will keep harvesting mountaintops until we tell them to stop!
